SYDNEY MORNING HERALD SUPPORT MISANDRY?

An article released by feminist journalist, Sonia Orchard in regards to her feelings that men need to ‘talk more’ about ‘gender issues’, as it says in the title (hhttp://tinyurl.com/SoniaOrchardArticle).

She quotes in her article as follows, ” Feminists have naturally focused the domestic violence discussion on protecting women and children. While this needs to remain the priority, we also need to ask the question: Why are so many men hell bent on drinking themselves stupid and destroying their own and other people’s lives? ”and further writes on with, ”But this appalling male behaviour is more than simply a symptom of privilege and misogyny. These boys are banding together to enact an age-old ritual: they’re performing their masculinity for one another. ”

How can a news outlet allow such a vile, misandry-supporting journalist write for them? Above all else, how can you subject the question ‘how do we help men?’ with such vile, feminist attitude?

Maybe for some toxic men, not all men, but some, violence and drinking is a problem but to make it a symptom of masculinity in an overall generalization is horrid.

Not to mention how do you even equate talking about feelings as a means to address violent tendencies? Have we seen a decrease in female predators because ultimately women are the superior sex? If women know better, then shouldn’t we be looking as to why women are also violent? Or is this yet another backwards argument of the feminist theory?

And how does watering down men’s issues and only focusing on drinking and violence even help the massive cases of male suicide across America, UK and Australia?

How does this journalist not understand that drinking isn’t mostly men, either. Studies have recently shown ”Approximately 46% of adult women report drinking alcohol in the last 30 days and approximately 12% of adult women report binge drinking 3 times a month, averaging 5 drinks per binge.” (http://www.cdc.gov/alcohol/fact-sheets/womens-health.htm) and according to Mcaay.Org, ”Males are more likely than females to be victims of alcohol-related verbal and physical abuse”. Why are we not associating women binge-drinkers to violence? Why isn’t there millions of dollars being spent into programs to conduct studies that expose female predators and violent behavior, Sonia? Do you live in such a feminist bubble that all men = violent and misogynistic and all women = victims?

When I read this article, I became appalled. As a mental health advocate, and long-standing advocate for men’s issues, the idea that such a vile article attempts to address men’s issues in such a way provoked me to finally respond. My response might be the beginning of a long dispute between myself and the Sydney Morning Herald and I shall be showing you all each chapter it unfolds.

My letter of complaint is as follows:

”To whom this concerns,

I am appalled at the way your supposed journalist, Sonia Orchard, has conducted herself when writing her latest article. Her portrayal of men’s issues is inhumane and disheartening. It’s articles such as herself that have led men to commit suicide because it portrays men under the stereotype that if they have problems, they therefore become violent. This is not true.

Her article is completely bias, sexist, misandrist and completely waters downs male issues. It’s also poorly researched because we have many different people speaking appropriately about Men’s Issues including Christina Hoff Sommors, Erin Prizzly and Camille Paglia.

There is also Cassie Jayne, a feminist director, who will be releasing her newest documentary ‘The Red Pill’ which aims to address both feminist and men’s rights/anti feminist perspectives.

I would like to advise this Sonia Orchard that before she writes about men’s issues again, that instead of taking a feminist watered down lens over men’s issues, she actually addresses the key issues that affect men on a daily basis such as:

1) Men’s Goals and ambitions aren’t valued 2) Men’s unique way of dealing with emotions is not valued 3) Stress in the workforce of jobs that men take on 4) Men’s sense of worth and self esteem 5) Father Custody battles and Kids 6) False Rape/Molestation accusations 7) Lack of emotional respect and love from partners 8) Lack of justice for men affected by DV and Rape 9) Not enough talk in regards to Abuse by Mothers 10) Punishment and Stigma towards Men’s Sexuality 12) Fear and Hysteria surrounding Masculinity 13) Mental Health and Education system DOES NOT support men’s development 14) Male victims are laughed out on Television 15) Women mock male victims 16) Call centres for men treat men needing help as abusers and perpetrators 17) Male dominant fields are being taken away from men 18) Men are disposable 18) Lack of Male friendship and bonding aka: stigma towards ”Lad Culture” created by entitled Feminists

Watering down the issues men face to simply say that they’re somehow ‘violent’ or its due to their emotions completely erases the many, many events and issues men go through. You wouldn’t dare tell a woman to man up when she has a problem, so don’t tell men to ‘woman up’, either.

And I advise any journalist who writes for the Sydney Morning Herald to leave their personal bias out of their articles. Journalism is about facts, not ideologies. If you’re going to address men, address it properly and I sincerely recommend watching these two videos:

I await your reply and hope in the future the Sydney Morning Herald will keep bias, racism, sexism and ideology pandering OUT of our news and should it factually address men’s issues, it properly addresses it instead of allowing rogue journalists such as Sonia take the reins and make completely appalling articles.

I await for your response,

Kind Regards,

Krystle M. Giles”

Overall, I look forward to the battle that may or may not unfold with the Sydney Morning Herald. I also recommend readers to submit their own responses to the news outlet and to let media websites know that we will not stand for this treatment of our men.
